Long Live The App

This article highlights iPhone app maker MobBase, a service that allows musicians to create their own iPhone applications for users to download. With the app, musicians are able to "connect fans with upcoming shows, music, news, Twitter feeds and videos." MobBase is significant as it allows smaller artists to easily (a simple template) and cheaply (about $20) create an app and communicate with current and potential fans.

iPhone apps are an incredible interactive resource and I can't see why any artist wouldn't want to take advantage. For a next to nothing cost, users can take an artist on the go and even share the artist's music with friends; imaginably creating a concrete fan base. I am interested in seeing the next direction musicians will take with the applications and how the applications will hold against other media and marketing tools in the next few years.
